Last night, all eyes must have been on Margot Robbie during the Oscars red carpet walk. After all, she has received much buzz for her award worthy performance in I, Tonya and every designer now wants to dress this new Hollywood star. So, did she wow on the much anticipated Oscars red carpet fashion? Honestly, I was left underwhelmed by this year’s style stars. There seemed to be a lack of Hollywood glamour, attention to details and trend setting. I went through the images numerous times and it was really a challenge to pick the wow ones because there weren’t many!
Read on to see my best dressed list and why I chose them.
Lupita Nyong’o takes the no.1 spot on my list. Styled to perfection from head to toe, I cannot find a single flaw on her! Her makeup and hair are gorgeous, love that hairband touch. The dark nail polish and black strappy heels match the statement details on her dress. That Atelier Versace gown is both old Hollywood glamour and fashion forward with trending features like one-shoulder and metallic. The gold colour is perfect for her skin tone, and makes her shine like a goddess. The soft draping at the waistline and high slit juxtaposes with the bold striking embellishment across her upper body, thus making Lupita the style star superhero!
Zendaya can do no wrong in the style department. She’s a risk taker and rocks a different winning look each time on the red carpet. Chocolate brown is the NEW neutral this year and it’s great to see her (the only one!) wearing this on Oscars nite which is typically inundated with safer colour choices like black, white and dark navy. This brown shade can be a tad granny but the one shoulder Giambattista gown with billowy statement sleeve upped it to WOW level. The top knot bun is a perfect option to offset this voluminous silhouette on her petite frame, while the statement earrings balance well with the gown.
This is what I’m talking about: Hollywood glamour! Nicole Kidman is not only a designer’s muse, but she also has that certain star power and quality to pull off such a jaw-dropping gown, or any red carpet looks. This Armani Prive gown exudes Hollywood royalty with its sweetheart neckline and jewel tone. Bustier is making a comeback this fall and huge bows are making a statement on the fashion runways. I like that she’s wearing pointy elegant shoes instead of predictable strappy heels. With such a standout gown, all you need is simple sleek hair and red lipstick. Gorgeous!
Gina Rodriguez is a vision in this Zuhair Murad metallic silver and tan gown. The silhouette shows off her body in the right places and the full skirt brings the gown to the next level. The embellished detail at her waist enhances her beautiful curves. The colour is just right for her skin tone without washing her out. Her makeup creates a healthy natural glow, complementing the tan coloured gown while her hair is styled into a sleek low ponytail. Thumbs up to her stylist!
Metallic is making a huge statement on the Oscars red carpet. Several stars turned up in expected metal colours like silver and gunmetal. Hence, it was refreshing to see Elizabeth Moss donning a gold accented pink number by Dior. Love the flattering off-shoulder wide V-neckline which lengthens her neck and narrows her wide angles. The hair is soft and pretty although it could do with more lift at the top. Overall, a very pretty look!
This concludes my best dressed list. I will not be listing the worst dressed, unless you wish to hear my comments on what went wrong and how it could be salvaged. Let me know! Hope you enjoyed this Oscars Style by Mel. Have a great week!
